What exactly is Citizenshipper?

Citizenshipper.com connects people who want something delivered with someone who can actually do the delivering. It can be anything, from a document, to a package, to something as big as a fridge! You have 2 options when you sign up for a free account: you can register as someone who wants something sent, or as the person who is willing to deliver. If you are planning on traveling somewhere this weekend, why not deliver a package on the way to help pay for your gas?
Can I really save money by sending packages through Citizenshipper.com?

Yes, you could save a lot of money! We've had numerous examples of members using our site and making
huge savings. Because we try to shipments with drivers who are going somewhere anyway you can
save as much as 80%. We've had members move pets, furniture, refrigerators, vehicles, and even entire apartments on CitizenShipper and helped people save a lot of money. But
don't take our word for it, list a shipment for
free, with
no obligation, and start receiving quotes
within minutes. That's right, CitizenShipper.com is free to use. Don't waste the rest of the day calling moving companies only to receive inflated quotes,
list a shipment on CitizenShipper.com and let some of the
thousands of registered drivers BID on your job. Because everyone is bidding to win your shipment,
the prices are driven down...WAY down.
Could I actually make money by using Citizenshipper.com?

Absolutely! If you plan on driving somewhere, why not take someone’s box along in your truck? At the very least, you’ll end up with some money to put toward your gas expense! The more things you take along with you and drop off along your route, the more money you’ll make.
Who can become a CitizenShipper?

Anyone can join CitizenShipper! You might be someone who makes occasional trips between certain towns and cities and just want to help pay for gas. Or, you could sign up just for your summer road trip to see if there are any deliveries needed along the way, and help pay for your vacation! If you travel on an occasional basis, Citizenshipper.com could become a supplement to your income.
As a driver, how do I get paid?

After the shipper and the transporter
both agree to the contract (the driver has placed a bid, and the shipper has accepted that bid) then both parties become bound by CitizenShipper's contracts to live up to their side of the agreement. This means that, as long as the transporter delivers as promised, then they are contractually bound to be paid for the job. CitizenShipper.com does not mediate the transaction, and drivers can be paid by cash, check, or any other method that both parties agree to. Some drivers ask for some cash up front, however in most cases, the shipment itself is used as the guarantee, and once delivered the driver is paid promptly. Since CitizenShipper.com was launched in 2008,
100% of drivers have been paid for their services, and
100% of shipments have reached their destination. We're proud to say we've not had a single complaint of a lost or damaged shipment, and not a single complaint of a driver not being paid.
Why should I trust a stranger to deliver my packages?

For a long time, the internet has been connecting people who don't know one another to enter into
business transactions together. Most of the time, these transactions are successful and no one gets scammed. However, most people appreciate some type of security feature needs to be in place. To this end, CitizenShipper.com has the following safety measures in place:
1. We offer drivers the opportunity to become a Level 3 Verified member. When a driver does this we perform a name and address verification on that driver, in addition to a background check.
2. We have incorporated a feedback system so you can see how many successful transactions our members have made in the past.
3. We offer insurance at an extremely competitive rate giving members even more peace of mind.
4. We encourage drivers to upload pictures of themselves and their vehicles so that you know who you are working with.
How does the feedback system work?

Both members (shipper and transporter) will be able to leave feedback about each other. The
driver will leave feedback based on whether the Shipper paid promptly and was pleasant to work with, and the client can also leave feedback about the
transporter based on whether he/she picked up and delivered the package on time and in good condition. To leave feedback, you will rate the interaction on a scale from 1-10, and you also have the option of leaving comments.
What percentage of completed transactions does Citizenshipper.com take?
None. Citizenshipper offers a 100% free service. All proceeds from a successful shipment are kept by the Courier.
Ok, I like the sound of this…so what do I do now?

Sign up for your free account! When you join you will be presented with a simple-to-use navigation panel that will let you:
1. List shipments for free which other members can bid on.
2. Let us know what routes you are willing to drive if you want to be the driver.
What do I do as a Transporter?
First, you will need to tell our system the places you are able to deliver from and to. To do this, go to the
Add Your Routes link on the main control panel. Say you are planning a trip this weekend, and plan to drive from Atlanta to Nashville: enter the zipcode of your starting point in Atlanta, and the zipcode of your final destination in Nashville. You may also enter the zipcodes of cities you will pass through on your way (by entering a separate route for each city, starting in Atlanta and ending in that city) in order to have more opportunities for deliveries. Now, just wait, and if anyone needs something sent from Atlanta to Nashville (or to the other cities you entered) you will receive an email alert
. If you like the look of the contract, you may
accept the contract. The CitizenShipper who posted the contract will then be alerted, and will
accept or
decline you for the job. As long as you have not accrued too much negative feedback, you will probably be accepted!
What do I do as a Shipper? (
The 'Shipper' is actually the person who needs something shipped)
When you need something delivered, simply click on the
Add your Contract link in the main control panel. Fill in the required fields, which include
what you need delivered, the starting and destination zip codes, and how much you are willing to pay the transporter. You will be alerted by email when a transporter is interested in your contract, or you can login to CitizenShipper to view your
Contract Bids page. If you are satisfied with the transporters feedback rating and comments, then you will notify them of your acceptance by clicking on the
accept button on the Contract Bids page. The contract is now closed to bidding from other transporters. If multiple transporters expressed interest in your contract, you will see each of them on the Contract Bids page, and you can choose amongst them by considering things like their feedback ratings, or the size of their vehicle (for example, if you’re shipping a washer and dryer, they must have a pickup or trailer).
What happens after the Shipper accepts a Transporter?
Now you will both have access to each other’s email addresses and contact numbers. The Transporter should contact the Shipper to arrange a time for pickup before the contract needs to be delivered. At this point, the Shipper will provide the Transporter with an exact address for pickup. The pickup location can be a neutral location (like the Starbucks down the road) to keep the Shippers home or work address private, if he/she prefers. The shipment can also be delivered to a neutral location if desired, to protect the privacy of anyone receiving the package.
How can a Transporter prove he/she delivered an item?

The
Contract Details page, which is reached by clicking the
detail button on the
View Your Contracts page, contains all the information the Transporter will need to deliver the package (pickup address, delivery address, contact number, etc). At the bottom of this page, you will see
signature on pickup and
signature on delivery. We strongly advise the Transporter to print out the
Contract Details page, and make sure he/she obtains signatures upon both delivery and pickup to aid in any disputes that could possibly arise.
How is payment handled?
There are a number of ways a CitizenCourier can be paid. Once delivery is made, payment should be made by the shipper. Payment can be with cash, check or sometimes a client will prefer to pay with a credit card. Note, if you cannot accept credit cards then we encourage you to look into joining PayPal.com. Anyone with a checking account can join PayPal and the sign up is very straightforward. As a member of PayPal you can request payment from anyone with an email address, and that person can pay you with a credit card.
Can I be both Shipper and Transporter?
YES! As of 20th Feb 2010 we upgraded the site to allow members to be both.
I have signed up, but I haven’t received any notifications…what’s going on?
CitizenShipper.com is a new service that was launched on August 5
th, 2008. As the number of users grows, so will the number of contracts offered and the number of available CitizenCouriers to deliver packages. Encourage your friends and family across the country to participate!
